We’re lucky enough to have the convenience of streaming platforms and various other online sharing services. At this point, YouTube still takes its top spot as the streaming giant that it has been for years. And it seems that it will be for a very long time.
So there’s such an abundance of content on YouTube. This also means that we’re kind of stuck with it, even for music. What’s more, if you’re using it on your phone, you can’t even turn your screen off without stopping the music. Well, unless you pay for it.
Luckily, you really don’t have to pay for YouTube Music if you want to stream stuff from YouTube. There are plenty of online converters that can help you download audio files to any of your devices. With this said, we’ll be looking into the best YouTube to MP3 converters that you can find online today.

4K YouTube to MP3
Firstly, we’d feature a straightforward tool like 4K YouTube to MP3. Sure, it’s a downloadable app, not an online browser-based one. However, it’s as simple as it gets.
And this is its biggest advantage. All you have to do is copy the YouTube link that you want to convert to an MP3 file and then click on the large blue button on the interface. And that’s it! You’ll also get a list of all of your downloads, along with the folder location shortcut for each one.
The folder shortcut thing seems very basic but it’s super useful for a tool like this one. I can’t explain how many times I’ve bothered to download a random YouTube to MP3 conversion app and then spend 15 minutes trying to locate the folder where the downloads are located. Or, even worse, trying to find how to change the destination folder.
Of course, despite its simple interface, there are a few options to choose from in the background. For instance, you can change the file format to M4A or OGG. You can also change the download quality.
There’s even a bunch of advanced options which would take some time to explore. However, the best thing about all of this is that the software is really intuitive. Overall, it’s very straightforward. But it comes with some features that can help you make it more advanced. In our opinion, it’s the most practical one on the list.
And, what’s surprising is that it supports other stuff other than YouTube. It works for Instagram, SoundCloud, Twitch, and a few other platforms. In addition, the developers offer other tools as well, some of which include simple video downloaders and converters.
Wondershare UniConverter is may not be as simple as the previously mentioned one. But it’s still not that hard to use. Here we have a downloadable app, so it’s not for online browser use. Secondly, it’s a full-on multi-format converter. Primarily, it’s for video files. But it also works for simple audio files.
So there’s the option to choose MOV, AVI, MP4, and a few other formats. You can also use a video file and just extract its audio, converting it into MP3. However, you need to bear in mind that this is primarily a conversion tool, not a simple YouTube to MP3.
Sure, downloading your favorite songs or any other audio from YouTube is possible. But it’s unnecessary to have all these tools and such a complex app if you just need a simple YouTube to MP3 conversion. Wondershare UniConverter can be a powerful tool if you need to have your options open and if you work with video files all the time. Downloading audio from YouTube is just one of the things that it does.
Y2mate
Then we have Y2mate as another simple one. The main difference is that this is an online app. All you have to do is paste a link and download the converted MP3 file. That’s it. Of course, there’s also the Y2mate browser extension. However, there’s rarely any practical need for it. All you have to do is just paste the link on the website and you’re good to go.
What’s awesome is that it also allows YouTube search within the same box where you can paste the link. You then have an option to also download it as a video file or an MP3 with 128 kbps resolution.
A minor downside of Y2mate, as well as most other browser-based tools of this kind, is that it can’t always convert every video. It’s not like you’ll stumble upon it that often, but it happens.
YTD Video Downloader
Not sure if it’s the oldest one, but YTD goes a long way back. It’s known as one of the most popular YouTube download apps. What’s more, it hasn’t even really changed its design for many years. They stick to the same old rule – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
What many people found YTD to be useful is that you can download numerous files in a queue. Just add it to the list and the app will come to them. However, if you’re using the free version, you can only download one video at a time. The paid subscription allows you to download them all at once. And that’s extremely useful for those who want to download entire YouTube channels.
In addition, it was a bit buggy on Windows from our experience. Nothing too bad, but there comes a moment where it just fails to download anything and you have to force quit it and start again.
ClipGrab
Up next, we have ClipGrab as another good straightforward example. This is a downloadable app. However, it gives a pretty simple interface that allows simple downloads. Its biggest strength, in our opinion, is that it comes with its search function. Essentially, you can do a direct online search through it and download audio or video files, including MP3, without turning on your browser.
ClipGrab is a cute and simple solution for downloading MP3 files from YouTube videos. It’s not an advanced one, but it gives you some simple options to just grab a song or any other audio that you need and listen to it.
Converto
Finally, I’d also like to mention Converto as a great one. This is probably the simplest one that we could find online. All you have to do is paste the YouTube link, press enter, and you’re ready to go.
It doesn’t allow you to choose the audio quality. However, it allows you to cut the video or audio and download only a portion of it. It’s a really interesting addition to an otherwise very simple tool.
What to Know When Using YouTube to MP3 Converters
The first thing to bear in mind if you need something downloaded off the internet is the issue of security. Fortunately, secure downloaders and converters are easily available and you no longer need to search for them. However, always be on the lookout and do a thorough search about experiences that people have with different downloaders.
Secondly, you need to know what you want. Do you need a more complex tool for downloading, cutting, or even editing audio and video files? Do you need the best possible audio quality? If so, grab one of the more advanced downloader apps. Just bear in mind that some advanced features require you to pay for the full version.
Finally, we have the issue of simplicity. Something like the 4K YouTube to MP3 makes things really simple yet gives you enough options to work with. But if you need more than just that, consider either getting a full package from 4K, or one of the other advanced products that I mentioned.
